There has never been a better time for this kind of storybook. Kids across North America (well, the world really) spend hours on the internet every week. While web sites and parent articles about internet safety abound, there’s not much out there to really appeal to the kid. They’re tired of being preached to (not that we’re going to stop…) And it’s not because they don’t understand that safety is important, but they’re kids after all. And kids wanna have fun.
Danny in a Newfangled World is an exciting cyber adventure tale that will appeal to the millions of kids who love video games because it’s about a kid just like them… who gets a chance to go right inside his computer. How cool is that? He embarks on a crazy adventure and learns a few things about this digital world. It’s not all fun and games, after all.
This book is written for kids – so don’t expect it to be too heavy on the moral message. Kids are smart – they’ll just put it down if they see a book as a ploy to preach to them. It’s a fun book that, deep down, has some darn important messages about the internet. And, if by the end of the book, a young internet surfer learns that he or she needs to look out for the hoobogey, then that child is that much more cautious online. And that’s a good thing.
