Thanks to digital technology, today’s kids have more opportunities than ever to share their stories with the world by creating their own web site, book, video, and more.  Oakville children’s author, Danielle Bileski, offers elementary students an interactive 60-minute presentation connecting traditional stories with modern day media that includes opportunities for students to role-play, brainstorm, and publish a blog post as a group.

In the presentation, she describes the process she underwent to create and publish her book, Danny in a Newfangled World, as well as demonstrates that all media (from video games to comic strips) begin the same – with a story. Students will leave feeling encouraged to generate their own stories with a new appreciation for their many possible outcomes.  The presentation is an ideal complement to Ontario’s Language Arts curriculum in both its writing and media literacy components.

Danielle’s chapter book for 6 to 10 year olds was published in Fall 2010 and is now sold at Chapters and Indigo stores across Ontario.  The book’s sequel is slated for publication in 2012.  She blogs regularly on her web sites, Dannyinanewfangledworld.com and Porridgereport.com (where she writes about raising digitally responsible kids), and ardently believes that today’s young can be empowered through the modern tools of digital technology and social media to shape the world in a positive way.

Fee:  $125.00 per 60-minute workshop up to maximum of 50 students.
